This is a 1963 manhole cover from Vero Beach.
This is a 1963 manhole cover from Vero Beach. This one was taken from the alley behind the post office on Vero's Beach. I use loose canvas and duct tape it in place in the street before I start painting.
One of the first manholes I did was also a 1963 Vero Beach but that one was in the road. I worked on that one early one Sunday morning when there was not much traffic. At the time I was only using square, pre-stretched canvas and I was not too happy with the results. Now I only use loose canvas and I later make custom, round stretchers. This makes for a much better image. (the original canvas is round, but reprints will all be square)
